Comments. Nothing appears to be known of Wright and Palmer. The old Free Grammar School was founded by William Patten, alias Barbour, otherwise William of Wainfleet, and afterwards Bishop of Winchester, Lord High Chancellor in the reign of Henry VI; and founder of Magdalen College, Oxford .    This handsome brick building with two towers at the west end came to be used as a church on every other Sunday during the winter, and was being used in this way at the time of the token's issue. It is sometimes referred to as Wainfleet Abbey, or Chapel, though originally it was not intended as a place of worship.
